2-GENERAL POINTS

Compatibilities
This product is designed for use with personal protective equipment that meets current standards. Ensure the intercompatibility of all the items in the belay system and that none of the elements in the belaying chain affects the operation and safety features of another element.

Normative information EN 566: 2017
The runners have a tensile strength greater than 22 kN (tests which meet the requirements of the EN 566: 2017 standard, conducted in a laboratory on new products).
Pay close attention to these different points:
Moisture, frost or knots on the runner can reduce its strength and make it more difficult to handle.
Contact with cutting edges or abrasive surfaces can lead to wear or even the sudden failure of the runner. Contact with chemicals may be harmful to the textile fibres of the runner.

3-SCOPE OF APPLICATION OF THE RUNNERS

Personal protective equipment (PPE) against falls from height and falls from belay points. This SIMOND product has numerous uses. In these instructions, we will list the main ones; this is a non-exhaustive list. Bear in mind that the use of the product for any other purpose than that mentioned in the instructions can lead to serious injury for the user, or even death.

Use as a runner:
The runners can be used to:
- Connect 2 points not connected by a chain (figure 1);
- Create an anchor point around a spike of rock or a tree (figure 4);
- Extend an anchor point (figure 5).

Use as a lanyard
SIMOND dynamic runners are designed and produced with dynamic ropes, so you can negotiate a belay in optimal safety conditions.
To ensure the best safety conditions, you must make sure you comply with the following two rules:
1-The lanyard should remain as tight as possible
2-The tie-in point must be below the anchor point (illustration No. 3).
You must never go above the anchor point of the relay. The impact force resulting from such a fall could lead to serious injury or death (fall factor greater than 1).
In this use, make a lark's head knot: pass one end of the runner through the harness’s hasp, then pass the other end of the runner through the first (illustration 6).
On the end of the runner, we strongly recommend using a carabiner with a locking system (carabiner compliant with standard EN 12275).
Other uses, such as attaching a belay device for rappelling, are dependent on your level of knowledge and expertise in climbing and mountaineering.

4-CARE AND STORAGE

Care
To clean your Simond textile products, run them under clean lukewarm water (30°C) with mild soap. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of soap. Allow it to dry in the open air, away from light and heat. If you need to use your equipment in a saline atmosphere, be sure to rinse it with clean water after use and allow it to air dry.

Storage/Transport
Store your equipment in a dry, well-ventilated place, away from light.
Avoid any contact with chemicals or corrosive substances, whatever they are, as their effects on the strap would be harmful.
Take care not to expose your runner to temperatures below -40°C or above +80°C. Thus, you should never leave your product inside a car in direct sunlight, for example.

5-MODIFICATIONS AND REPAIRS

Any modification or repair of the product is forbidden. Purchase of "used" equipment is strongly discouraged because its history could be falsified.

6-CHECKS AND LIFESPAN

Checks
Before and after each use, check the good condition of your equipment:
Check for cuts and traces of wear on the rope caused by abrasion or burns,
Check that the stitching is in good condition, in particular that the thread used is not damaged.
A more detailed inspection should be carried out at least once a year by a qualified person.
Your runner will age. Its characteristics reduce over time, remember to replace it regularly.

Lifespan
The maximum lifespan of SIMOND products is given from the manufacturing date indicated on the product. This information is provided on the label (B):
- 10 years for the runners
This label shows the year (4 numbers) and month (2 numbers) of manufacture. This 10-year service life may be reduced depending on the type and frequency of use.
It may be reduced to a single use in case of intensive use with friction or in the case of high stress (stopping a high fall, exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, etc.). As long as your equipment complies with the requirements described above, you can use it.
If you have any queries on the status of the product, have a competent, trained person check it or destroy it.

7-WARRANTY

This SIMOND product is guaranteed for 2 years against any type of manufacturing defect, from the date of purchase.
Normal wear and tear, as well as damage caused by improper use or modification of the product, incorrect storage or poor maintenance are not covered by the guarantee.
