Your hands!
The combination of a push-pin system and a lock mechanism makes it really easy to use and guarantees your pole is strong!
Romain, our hiking pole engineer, explains how it works.
Your hands!
Have you just got a pair of ultra-compact hiking poles? Here’s how to properly set up and adjust your poles.
First of all, undo the velcro.
Hold the pole by its foam handle in one hand and let it hang naturally.
Don’t touch the lock mechanism with your other hand straight away!
Instead, use your other hand to take the light brown aluminium ring and pull it to slide the segment out.
Keep pulling until the push-pin (metal button) appears and pops out.
It is normal that it will get harder to keep pulling because you are compressing an internal spring.
Once the push-pin is pulled out, the stick becomes rigid and will not come loose!
Open the lever on the lock mechanism.
Adjust the pole to your height and close the lever.
Your arm should form a right angle with your body.
Check that it is locked in place securely by banging it on the ground a few times.
And if necessary, retighten the dial of the lock mechanism.
If you notice that your pole tends to slide down, your external lock needs to be adjusted!
When adjusting the length, do not go beyond the stop line as pictured above. Beyond this limit the pole could snap while in use and you may be injured.
Here are all the explanations on video!
If your poles need to be stored in the closet for a prolonged period (in winter for example), leave the blockers unscrewed. This way, you will maintain their locking power. And when they get back into use, still make sure they are well adjusted.
