Fabric waterproofing
We measure a fabric's resistance to a water column, in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure resistance, the more waterproof the fabric. Components with 2000 mm rating can resist 2000 mm of water pressure (which is roughly equivalent to a rain shower lasting 2 hours). With a waterproofing rate over 10 000 mm, the Mountaineering hardshell pants offer an extremely high level of waterproofing.
Product's waterproofing
The hardshell pants have been approved in a shower test under 100 litres of water / m² / hour during 3 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a heavy mountain downpour.
Fabric breathability
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporate resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more moisture, generated by an active body, is evaporated, and therefore the higher the fabric's breathability. We consider that if - RET < 9 = highly breathable fabric - 9<RET<12 = breathable fabric - RET > 12 = slightly or not breathable fabric. If pants have a RET between 9<RET<12
Product's breathability
On top the main fabric's breathability, these pants have been designed with 2 side zips, enabling air flow that helps to regulate temperature, further enhancing ventilation
Full length two-way zip
This new generation 2-way zip offers the same waterproofing as a classic silicone zip (similar to those on pockets) while being more flexible, which improves the pants compression when packed away. Plus, this zip is easier to handle, which helps to make it longer lasting. The 2-way zip and full length opening, allow you to fit or remove trousers, crampons, skis, which is an added bonus during a storm.

    Very very good!

These trousers are extremely breathable and waterproof. They are very durable and easy to throw on over boots or crampons. The zips run freely and are not prone to seizing up and they are made from a robust material. Tested these out on a long climb in Scotland and while I haven't been in a torrential downpour, they have kept me dry and didn't tear when I was working my way across rocks and boulders. The sizing is exact and the fit is very good. These offer quite a big bang for not much buck. I would get these again.

Excellent! As good as the expensive brands

I was needing a pair of over trousers as I had ripped my old pair with my crampons after a lead fall. My partner decided to take it upon herself to buy me some as a surprise. When I opened them they certainly looked the part! I had absolutely no idea about the brand or where they came from, but being an optimist I decided to try them out and I have to say I'm delighted! They are just as good as anything expensive and for a portion of the price.

The only problem I had with them is that they didn't have the garage at the top of the zip to keep the rain out of the pockets, other than that they are excellent trousers and would happily recommend them to anyone wanting a solid pair of over trousers
