Lab and field tests
Double Verdict: the promise and the proof
Before any piece of gear earns the right to be part of your climbs, it faces a double verdict: first, the methodical and rigorous testing in our laboratories, and then the uncompromising trial of the field. These two stages complement each other. The laboratory dissects the material and structure under controlled conditions, while the field tests its spirit and function, where every element, every unforeseen challenge, and every sensation truly matters.
The laboratory: certainty in numbers
The path to performance starts here. Abrasion resistance, tear strength, waterproofing, breathability, durability. Each feature is measured, quantified, and pushed to its breaking point. Our tents withstand winds of 70 kilometers per hour. Find a flaw? We reinforce, we innovate. Science at work for your safety.
The purpose of this stage is clear: it establishes objective, measurable performance. The laboratory allows us to isolate variables, to push materials and constructions to their limits in a controlled environment. It is our way of ensuring that every product has the strength and durability needed to face the real world, the one you will encounter on your adventures and climbs.

Field-testing: when reality hits
Numbers don’t tell the whole story. The real test begins where the variables are endless: in the field. Our products are made for action, to face the elements, to support those who dare. For every Simond discipline, the field speaks with its own distinct voice:

For trekking,
Two groups of ten testers, men and women, set out on fifteen days of intensive hiking in what we call the durability mission.
Their goal: to live with your future products, assessing long-term comfort, resilience against unexpected trail challenges, and practicality when fatigue sets in and every move counts. It’s direct feedback from the people we design for.
They then record all their observations to help us improve our products.
For mountaineering,
There is no margin for error. Our prototypes meet the strictest safety standards and are entrusted to those who live among the peaks: high mountain guides and expert partners.
On their playground, they ensure our products adapt to the extreme conditions they face while remaining fully functional.
For climbing,
Our expert partners, seasoned climbers, test our shoes, harnesses, and quickdraws both on rock and in the gym.
For backcountry skiing, products are expected to deliver versatility, lightness, and reliability. High mountain guides, athlete ambassadors capable of analyzing every strength and flaw, and demanding partners like UCPA, put our gear through its paces across varied snow conditions, slopes, and elevation gains. They push the equipment to its limits so you can push yours.

Our signature: High standards
This long and demanding process is our trademark. If at the end of this double journey, a product does not fully meet user expectations, or if there is the slightest doubt about its performance or reliability, we choose patience. We are willing to wait, even another year if necessary, to resolve any issues, refine, and perfect.
At Simond, we do not take shortcuts. Trust must be earned, and every climb, every adventure deserves the very best. So you can carve your path with complete peace of mind.
