FRANÇOIS MARSIGNY

MOUNTAIN GUIDE, INSTRUCTOR AT ENSA

Specialties
Ice, ice and a bit more ice.

Favorite place
Kandersteg because it's an ice climbers' paradise that is less than 2 hours from Chamonix, the Aosta valley for the Gelateria in Morgex and the great ice routes that can be found pretty much everywhere.

Best moments
The Dent d'Orche with my brother Bernard when I was 10 years old: the climb that got me started.
Cho Oyu in October 2007 with my wife Martine, just the 2 of us, without Sherpa and without oxygene.
The Makalu without oxygene, in bad weather.
My first solo in the North face of les Droites.
The opening of Divine Providence with Patrick Gabarrou in the Mont Blanc.
And of course all the routes on the north face of the Grandes Jorasses that I have been fortunate enough to climb (10 in total).
Then there's Patagonia with Andy Parkin and our wanderings onto Hielo Continental.

Favorite CD, book, movie :
Livre: Shantaram, by Gregory David Roberts
Film: Los tres entierros de Melquiades Estrada, by Tommy Lee Jones
CD: Gentilhomme de Fortune, by Laviliers.

A trip doesn't require grounds. It doesn't take a long time to prove that it is self-sufficient. One think that one is about to make a trip, but soon enough, it is the trip that makes you, or breaks you.
